election day.

6 Nov

I want to take this time to talk about voting today. Not so much about what I believe in–whether I’m red or blue–(I’m actually registered as an Independent, in case you might have wondered). Also, I rarely ever vote for actual politicians, I vote for measures and props. Those are the things that I really feel that matter. At least they’re the things that I really feel my vote counts in.

What I want to talk about today is the right to vote. It wasn’t even 100 years ago that I would have been denied the right to vote because I am a woman. It really wasn’t that long ago, if you really stop to think about it. When I vote, I think about those women who sacrificed their time, safety, and their health to advocate for equality.

It’s for those women why I choose to vote.

I brought my daughter with me to vote. Yes, she’s only 3 months old, and had no idea what on Earth, mommy was doing. But I want her to see that her mother votes. When she gets older I will bring her again, and then I can really teach her what it means and why it’s important. I want her to know how lucky we are.
